Creating Light in the Darkness
A Chinese proverb that's been prominent in my mind lately is this:
"It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness."
There's so much that we can do to create solutions in our lives. To create ease, harmony, positivity, and forward motion in our relationships, in our lives, and within ourselves. So much! But what keeps us from lighting the candle?
Fears of getting it wrong, not doing it perfectly, being judged or criticized by others...those are just a few of the usual suspects. And then there's the belief that if it only makes it a little better and can't make it all better, then it's not worth doing. Does this ring a bell?
These heavy, cyclical thought patterns aren't inherent in us. They're learned. From watching others, from consuming the media, from living life according to the status quo. Internalizing the collective belief that it's better and more comfortable to complain about the darkness and say "I can't!" rather than explore the solution that's right there in your hands.
Little ol' me can't make a difference, right? Right?
But you can. A single candle may not light up the sky, but can it light your next step? Can it light your path to others who have lit their candles, too, uniting your Light to shine for others who are ready to stop cursing the darkness? To CHANGE the collective consciousness, so that these self-limiting and self-sabotaging beliefs can be overcome, candle by candle, and won't keep perpetuating darkness for the generations to come?
