Rising Above Negativity

In my spiritual training as an Adept, Kabbalist, and Healer in the Modern Mystery School, a core emphasis is on weeding out negativity so it no longer has anywhere to grow, put down roots, or bear fruit in my life.

And that includes not just behaviors and what I choose to do externally, but also the precursors of those actions, which are my words, my thoughts, my subconsious, and how I choose to behave internally.  So I can truly, and authentically, BE the change I wish to see in my world.  And so it has become second nature for me to identify, interrupt and eliminate negativity before it even begins, which has completely changed my life for Good in ways I never thought possible!

And because it was possible for me - someone who was once as negative, nihilistic, and cynical as they get - I know it can be possible for anyone.

So today I share with you a simple, but powerful, prompt that can serve you to begin your own process of weeding out and interrupting a super common negative thought pattern that feeds and amplifies resentment, overwhelm, anger, frustration, and division in our lives:

Substituting "I have to" with "I get to."

Confused and frustrated mind

How often do you say "I have to" every day?

I'll guess that it's a lot more than you realize.  I have to go here, I have to do this, I have to talk to you, I have to finish this project, I have to pay this bill, I have to go to work, I have to eat, I have to go to sleep, I have to relax...you see?

And on the contrary, how often do you say, "I get to?"  Nowhere near as much, if at all.

And the implication of "having" to do something is that it comes from obligation and one having no choice.  Which is why it's common that when people say it, they appear stressed, spread too thin, or frustrated.  The vibration and energy of "I have to" tends to be low and heavy.  Contrasted with "I get to," which implies conscious choice, a willingness, and gratitude for the opportunity, the vibration and energy is quite different.  It's generally uplifting, energizing, and exciting. So practiced over time, this simple shifts empowers you to redirect your relationship with what's happening in your life away from your perception of them as a burden and towards identifying and perceiving what's happening in your life as a gift.

And know that there's no need to discriminate between "having" to do the things you don't like and "getting" to do the things you do like.  Quite the opposite.  Apply "getting to" to facing your challenges, going through hard times, having difficult conversations, and making changes and sacrifices that may not be comfortable, but ultimately move you in a better direction.

So try it out.  It won't come naturally for a while, so do your best to not get discouraged and stick with it.  And notice how it begins to slowly and surely rewire your nervous system away from the defaults of fight, flight, and freeze and towards a new way of moving through life more efficiently, more presently, more smoothly, and more positively.

For in truth, you actually don't have to do anything in your life.  But you do get to do everything in your life.  And that can simple change in perspective that can have big results in bringing not only your individual consciousness, but indeed our collective consciousness, into a more positive, hopeful, open and uplifted state of being.
