January New Moon 2022

Today is the 1st New Moon of 2022, and I was fortunate enough to be discussing the New Moon and its significance with my client's wonderful daughters, one 7 and the other 11. Every time I interact with children, they teach me something new and profound. And this was no exception!

They asked me, "What's the New Moon supposed to do?"

I pondered and then posed this question to them: "What if you just kept buying clothes and never got rid of any of them? What would happen?"

The 11-year old thought and then replied, "they'd fill my whole room...or even the whole house!" The 7-year old quickly chimed in, "and most of those clothes wouldn't even fit anymore!"

I smiled and paused before I continued.

"Yes, that's right! So on the New Moon we release what no longer fits - like old clothes, old toys, old thoughts, old beliefs, or even old versions of us - so we can keep growing, learning, and becoming more of who we really are. More of who you were born to be. To put it simply, we make room for the new on the New Moon. Does that make sense?"

They gazed into the distance, thinking about it for a few moments, and then nodded their heads and smiled.

So my question to you is this: "How will you make room?"

As you look forward to the new beginnings and new possibilities of 2022, don't just keep accumulating goals, resolutions, and backlogging good intentions. Use the New Moon time to focus and get clearer on what's blocking your progression and take the appropriate action to let whatever it is go. In a nutshell, in order to bring something new in, you must let something old out. And the bigger the possibilities and growth you wish to manifest, the bigger the sacrifice of possessions, thoughts, beliefs, and shedding versions of you that no longer fit.

So seize the opportunity of the New Moon. Interrupt the cycle of turning a blind eye to what no longer fits, what no longer brings you joy, and what's actually holding you back. And do your best to make room for the new.
